Feedback with Sander 23.10.2025
The current direction focuses on incorporating coincidence within graphic design.
Rather than fully controlling the outcome, the research encourages continuous exploration through process-based and visual experiments. Staying active in practice-as-research is considered an essential part of development.
At this stage, it is acceptable to keep the research questions open and broad. The topic can gradually become more specific when a clear direction or comfortable focus is found. Flexibility is key to understanding how coincidence can function as a design strategy.
A case study on TouchDesigner was mentioned as a potential digital parallel to analogue imperfections. Digital tools, such as distortion effects, may also generate unexpected results, connecting the idea of “imperfection” beyond physical printing processes.
The feedback raised two key reflective questions for further exploration:
-
Is it still perfect if coincidence becomes part of the design process?
-
How can perfectionism be reinterpreted through the presence of imperfection in graphic design?
These questions invite a rethinking of what “perfect” means when designers consciously accept and integrate accidental moments as valuable design elements.
